Homeschool Curriculum-Remedial Math for Homeschoolers

Are your kids are struggling with math and although they seem to get it now and then, you are back to the same old struggles year after year? Or perhaps you have a child who just keeps falling further and further behind?
You’ve tried all the typical homeschool math courses–Saxon, Singapore, ACE, Horizons . . . but the struggle continues. Perhaps you are a homeschooler seeking a better option for math or maybe you have a student who is attending school but needs a remedial math course that will help him or her finally master the concepts.
Let me tell you about a remedial math course that has people raving. I know it sounds like I am writing an ad but please understand my sincerity here. This course works!
Bridgeway Math is a remedial math course written specifically to be used as a homeschool independent study course. No teacher’s guides, no extra work, no extra instruction needed. Instead, it provides step by step easy to follow instructions to the student and plenty of practice to ensure that they are really mastering each concept.
It starts with the basics–I mean the real basics (remember, this is a remedial math course). Place value, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing, with the premise that without these foundational skills, math will never come easy to a student. From there, students move through problem solving, fractions and decimals, basic pre-algebra and geometry and all the concepts necessary to prepare a student for success in the upper level math courses. All in one full year math course!
Somehow the way this remedial homeschool math course presents the material works! Kids just get it and find that they are able to succeed as they move on to more difficult concepts. The order makes sense, the easy to understand teaching and instructions, the number of practice questions for each concept… All carefully put together to ensure success.
I have seen this remedial math course used for children in 7th grade all the way up to high school seniors in need of extra instruction in math. And it works.
Once only available to Bridgeway Homeschool Academy students, you can now order it at Curriculum Express. The total cost for both student texts and the answer key is $69.99 . There is also a Bridgeway English course which you can read about by clicking here.
If you have used this course, we would love to hear from you. Please post your comments and help other homeschoolers who may need a strong remedial math course for their child.

Here is a brand new site that helps with the basic concepts: http://arithmeticvillage.com. It also has heaps of free ideas and activities!
I went to the website and there are 2 books…math foundations and prealgebra. both books have the same description. what is the content breakdown for each book? Is there any way to see the table of contents of each book? Im trying to decide which one to get. my son needs remediation with fractions and decimals
Hi Jennifer,
I like your approach and am glad you are taking the time to find the right book for your son. Many times a student needs to review the basics in order to master fractions and decimals–especially if he is having trouble with place value and basic operations. You will see below that both books cover fractions. The first one starts with the basics–the second takes it further with more complicated problems. If he is really struggling, you may want to purchase both books. The two together are designed to be a full year of math–each covering half a year. He will average 3-4 pages of math per day if he completes the entire series–not too bad and really works well.
According to the objectives the first book, Math Foundations covers the topics of: basic operations, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing, using whole numbers, place value, estimation, fractions, least common denominators, mixed numbers, decimals, and word problems.
Pre-Algebra builds from those concepts and covers problem solving, fractions and decimals, percents, proportions, probability, mean, median, mode, using tables and graphs, systems of measurement, exponents, scientific notation, square roots, the Pythagorean Theorem, negative numbers, basic pre-algebra and geometry and all of the concepts necessary to prepare a student for success in the upper level math courses.
Hope this helps! I can tell you that we hear great reviews all the time from students who “finally get it!”
Once a student finishes Bridgeway Math Books 1 and 2, what Algebra book would you recommend next? Is there a curriculum anywhere out there for Algebra and geometry that follows this same format?
LMOM (ID 28986) » ACE presents this same format and will also focus on the mastery approach that you have become accustomed to through the Bridgeway Math. You can order ACE Algebra I and Geometry at a discount from Curriculum Express by visiting http://www.curriculumexpress.com
I ordered this program for my daughter who has struggled with math. She absolutely loves this curriculum. She will finish up the Math Foundations book in a couple weeks and will begin the Pre-Algebra book. Thank you so much for this great review. After reading about this curriculum here I ordered the set and am so very glad that I did. It has been a lifesaver for us!! We are planning to go into ACE’s Algebra 1 after she finishes the Bridgeway math books and we plan to use Bridgeway English next year.
So glad to hear it, Rhonda! We hear this so often from students who finally “get it!” Thanks for sharing!
